The Conoptica timeline

Here are some of the major milestones in our history.

1985 - 1990

Starting our journey

Founded in 1985 by Dr. Ing. Gudmund Slettemoen, a pioneer in the use of optical systems for measurement, with research undertaken at NTH, Arizona’s Optical Sciences Center, and SINTEF.

1991-1995

Entering the Wire and Cable industry

Conoptica AS acts as consultants on optical instruments for dozens of companies and research institutes, identifying flaws with existing approaches. As a result, the Die Profiler is born.

1996-2000

Worldwide success and growth

Conoptica's Die Profiler rapidly attracts industry attention, bringing a novel approach to drawing die measurement to the Wire and Cable industry. With its innovative 3D-outline solution, it becomes widely adopted globally.

2001-2005

Investment in innovation

Building on its continued success, Conoptica extended the range of drawing die measurement systems, and developed a new software platform to bring its innovations to the wider machine tool sector.

2006-2010

Towards CU2

An entirely new sensor technology – CU2 – was created, designed to support production quality and control for machine tools. The proven 3D-outline platform was combined with the new Fingerpatch solution.

2011-2015

Tool and Track debut

CU2 Tool and Track were launched, bringing a new approach to machine tool and workpiece measurement – from inside the machine. Meanwhile, integration with major CNC system providers was achieved.

2016-2020

Becoming the gold standard

An innovative second radius compensation method was added to the CU2 Tool, while unique bearing asymmetry and shaped die measurement capabilities were added for the Wire and Cable portfolio.

2021-present

Building the community

CU2 Tool – Turning was introduced, extending the CU2 range — and an enhanced GUI was introduced for all versions. New partners were added to our resellers, and we grew our sales team with key recruits across all departments.
