FAQs

Here we answer some of our most frequently asked questions...

What is the difference between CU11 and CU6?

CU11: This is our most advanced system — and the most advanced system available in the market. With the CU11 you can measure all the standard parameters for drawing dies (diameter, ovality, bearing length reduction cone angle). With its dual-axis system, it's also capable of advanced bearing analysis to detect and measure asymmetries in the bearing. The CU11 series is also the only system that can properly measure shaped (non-round) dies in the depth profile. We recommend the CU11 series for all users with their own die shop re-polishing dies, as well as users with high requirements for accuracy and process control.

CU6: Our entry level system. This affordable, yet powerful die measurement system series will provide the four standard measurement parameters for drawing dies. The system is easy to operate. It provides measurements with the same accuracy and precision as the more advanced CU11. We recommend the CU6 as a budget-friendly option to the CU11, as well as for users without on-site die processing who need to verify dies before use. These instruments can measure as from 0.020 mm up to 7 mm of internal diameter and a die with maximum 300g.

What is the difference between Standard, X and S Models?

Both the CU11 and the CU6 series have 3 different models providing different measurement capacity. Both series consists of 3 models: The regular, the 'X' and the 'S' models. The difference between these models is the measurement speed, and therefore the capacity (die measurements per hour). All other parameters are the same within the series (accuracy, measurement modes etc.).

Can I measure Extrusion dies?

It depends. If the size of the die fits in our system, then yes, we can measure extrusion dies diameter and ovality. Other parameters we need to check case by case. Note that custom die holders may be required. Let us know your exact needs, and we will let you know how we can help you!

Can I measure both my PCD and ND dies on the same system?

Yes, you can. With our technology we can measure drawing dies of all common materials.

If I want to measure my shaped dies, which is the best system to do that?

For proper measurement of shaped dies, the CU11 series is best suited, or if your dies are bigger, the CU20 series.

We have some proprietary die shapes, and we would like to measure them. Can we do that without compromising our trade secrets?

Yes, you can. Most die shapes aren’t proprietary or secret. Therefore, we made a generator to easily crate the different varieties of these shapes for all our Shaped Die Application customers. When you require confidentiality, we can create specific models or templates for only you - if necessary, under an NDA.

Can your instrument solve 100% of my wire break issues?

No, most likely not. Wire breaks can occur for many different reasons, not all of them are related to the drawing dies. However, we can provide necessary measurements of the dies so that you can be sure to use the correct dies in your drawing machine and thereby minimize the risk of breaks related to using dies of the wrong size or shape.
